SDUHSD Board Bylaw 9005 - The Governing Board believes that its primary responsibility is to act in the best interests of every student in the district. The Board also has major commitments to parents/guardians, all members of the community, employees, the state of California, laws pertaining to public education, and established policies of the district. SDUHSD Board Bylaw 9200 - Board members shall hold the education of students above any partisan principle, group interest, or personal interest.
2020 Area 4 Board Election: Allman is NOT An Independent Trustee
One of Michael Allman's FIRST and LARGEST donors was from Reform California PAC, founded and chaired by Carl DeMaio. "Reform California is a general purpose political committee. . . .The group raises and spends money on multiple issues at a time. (Carl) DeMaio has a knack for guiding it to the issues at the center of the state’s conservative movement." Reform California is known for opposing things such as bond measures similar to those that funded all of SDUHSD's Prop AA projects.
The donation to Mr. Allman's campaign was made in July 2019, after Allman's failed congressional bid and almost a year and a half before most SDUHSD school board campaigns began. Is DeMaio's involvement a genuine concern for students, or is Allman being groomed for a future and larger political bid? Click image above to see a larger version of the document.

2020 Area 4 Board Election: "Strawman Candidate"?
In November 2020, in a three-way race, Mr. Allman received only 42.31% of the vote and won by a mere 326 votes.
Questions arise in the circumstances around and results of the 2020 Election for Allman’s Area 4 seat. During the summer of 2020, Amy Caterina completed the paperwork to run for the Area 4 seat along with Allman and Jane Lea Smith. Allman received the Republican Party endorsement, and Jane Lea Smith received the Democratic Party endorsement. Amy Caterina ran as a Democrat but did not receive the Democratic Party endorsement. That same summer, she also applied to serve on the County Redistricting Committee. In that application, Caterina cites working closely with Trustee Mo Muir, a supporter of Michael Allman. Then in October of 2020, just after ballots landed in mailboxes with her name included, Amy Caterina announced she was dropping out of the Area 4 race to serve on the Redistricting Committee, throwing her support behind Allman. Was Amy Caterina a “strawman candidate” -- working with Allman and Muir all along, intentionally pulling Democratic votes away from Jane Lea Smith just to drop out and support Allman? Allman's Priority 2021: Associations with Right-Wing Extremist Groups and Charter School Advocates
On July 10, 2021, Michael Allman used his position as an SDUHSD Trustee to participate in a Let Them Breathe event, an anti-mask mandate group. As stated in this June 9, 2021, Coast News piece, "As the 2020-21 school year comes to a close, many parents are gearing up for a fight heading into next year." Additionally, "the Let Them Breathe group is preparing to challenge the state over its guidelines regarding the COVID-19 virus and its transmission among students."
Let them Breathe was founded by a home-school advocate and featured a panelist known to have attended the January 6, 2021 Insurrection at the capital in Washington DC. When questioned whether Allman had voiced anti-mask sentiments at the event, his spokesperson said he used his slot to instead speak against the Area 4 Recall Effort. Why did a School Board Trustee attend an event as a Trustee to discuss his personal political circumstances in violation of the SDUHSD Board Bylaws? Education is NOT Allman's Priority
In 2018, Michael Allman ran in the Republican Primary for the U.S. House of Representatives CA 52nd District. His Ballotpedia candidate survey revealed his top priorities, personal passions, and potential committee interests. In his answers, Allman showed no concern for public education. In fact, in his only mention of education, he complained that “many people are seduced by proposed socialist policies that promise free education, subsidized housing...and other empty promises.”

SDUHSD is NOT Allman's Priority
It was only after losing in the 2018 52nd District US Congressional Primary that Mr. Allman set his sights on our local school district. He has never volunteered in our schools, and his own children graduated from private school.
In June 2020 the San Diego Republican party revealed its plans to "recruit 400 people to run for local office to shape the community." In this piece, Chairman of the Republican Party of San Diego County, Tony Krvaric said, "many smaller offices like . . . school board. . .are unpaid offices, but can work as stepping stones and career building jobs for future political aspirations." See the Results of the 2018 Congressional Primary here. *Allman finished 5th. |
Recall 2021: Money is Allman's Priority
For $5,000, political donors to Mr. Allman's political recall campaign can become part of an "inner circle of advisors" . . . for a school district . . . on which he is only one of five members. Money is the only criteria for entry into this circle. So, how does this inner circle put the needs of students first, particularly the needs of those families who can't afford the expensive barrier to entry?
Political funds raised in the recall can be used for future campaigns. |
Access to ALL is NOT Allman's Priority
Allman incentivizes his private Facebook group with ‘rewards’ for their support.
For example, when the Facebook group was started, in order to grow membership, he offered a "catered dinner for 8 at our home. . . (or a) $200 donation to the charity of your choice." And most recently, to his Facebook followers, he posted pictures of his house with the reward of “the parties we will have. . . when this recall effort fails."
