The SDFA Candidate Endorsement Process
Because our community does have an elected body who governs our schools, we feel that it is important that our elected officials understand the unique responsibilities that come with running an educational institution. Our endorsement of candidates is one way to communicate to the larger community that we, as trained educational professionals, believe that the candidate would be most effective at governing our schools. We look for candidates that respect teachers and educators as professionals. We look for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to public schools and the value of a public education. We look for candidates who want safe and equitable schools for all of our students.
Persons interested in running for school board must file Candidate Nomination documents during the designated filing period. Candidates may obtain forms and file from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.
Candidates seeking endorsement by SDFA will be provided a questionnaire with carefully-worded questions regarding issues of importance for our members. All candidates are asked the same questions regarding how they best benefit the education of our students. The SDFA PAC committee will recommend candidates for endorsement to the SDFA Executive Board for approval.
